I hate to post other site threads, but someone posted PAR readings on the 30 watt LEDs on the Maxspect LED pendant. It surely makes me feel better about ordering those spotlights.

Pic no workie. Keep me updated though, as if the PAR and spread seem good for these things, I may grab 2 for my cube.

Yeah, I'm almost a convert to the house of LED, someone (not sure who, could have been the designer) did one of those Sanjay type of 3d intensity plot with the 21W Nano-customs screw in LED, it has a smaller footprint of light to be sure, but as far as intensity over that foot print it was the same if not more than a 250W DE halide at 12" through air.

These LEDs are expensive and have a small foot print. The Nano-Customs ones are just as costly.

Well they're not THAT costly, they're about $120 a piece, which in the grand scheme of things is what? 2 MH bulb replacements? They absolutely have a smaller footprint than a MH in a reflector to be certain, but half the time I wonder why we put some much effort in covering such a large area considering a good deal of what we're illuminating is the bottom of the tank (whether it is sand or acrylic). Will you need more of these than you would halides? Our club is having a talk on LED fixtures and what not, there will be some samples there, as well as a PAR meter or two, and I'm bringing a 175W halide just to have something to compare to. Granted it will be through air most likely, but its something to keep an eye on.

I agree with the power of LEDs, but you will need three or four of those to cover the same area that a MH covers. That is a start up cost that keeps people away from LEDs. It would cost me about $1500 to replace my MH with those LEDs. That is precisely why I am trying these 30 watters. Let's hope they are powerful enough.
