Hi,

Can anyone of identify and come up with a solution ASAP for this clam of mine?
I purchased this Tridacna Squamosa and it has been in my tank for the 3rd month now. It was doing fine under my 20000K HQI Metal Halide 150W lighting, moderate flow, and 6ftx2ftx2ft tank with 2 units of 3ftx1.5ftx1.5ft sumptanks (with mangrove compartment). It started showing this curling and gaping symptoms since the last two days. I have 3 more T.Squamosa and 4 more T.Crocea in the same tank, all the others are doing fine.

Nutrient Measurement:
Calcium 590mg/L
Magnesium 1380 mg/L
PH 8.3
dKH 10
Salinity is 1.023ppm

Please, need help urgently to save this clam! Thanks in advance.

I am so sorry, clams are not my forte.

:welcome:

Let's give this a bump and see if someone who knows what they are talking about posts up.

If your using iron based phosphate removers remove them right away and replace with lots of fresh carbon in a reactor or canister filter. A bag of carbon just laying in the sump isnt going to work, the water needs to be forced through the carbon.

You could try a short (15minutes) fresh water dip but no guarantees, that clam is in bad shape. The clam hasnt been laying down new shell in some time.

Thanks chris&barb, I was hoping you'd post up. I'm curious, how can you tell if the clam has not been putting down new shell?

If you look on the inside of the shell you can see where its last put on new shell.

The black arrows point to where the clam had been putting on new shell when it was healthy and the white arrows point to clean white shell that the clam is laying down now. You can see how far back its receded
