So I get a Sureflow Maxi-Jet mod and its loud, buzzing every 2-3min. Any ideas on how to quiet it down? I moved it up and down in the water column, no change, turned the solid piece in the output to the top, no change. Oh and its on the magnet mount (which is one of the better things invented lately).

I have a sure flow mod on a maxi jet 1200. It is the only pump in my tank (in the process of setting up the 125 tank) Its been moving water for about a week now. at first it had a little vibration to it, but now I can't hear it at all. I have to check the water surface just to be sure it is still running. Mine is placed on the side of the tank about 10 inches below the water surface. If I move it any higher it will start to suck air into it. So far I am really pleased with it but it has only been a week. Oh and it runs continually, no wavemaker.

Go to sure flow and email them about the problem. They will send a new impeller. Many are defective and will always try to run backwards at some point, kicking forward and striking the shroud. I had two, one, even with the replacements never worked with the big propeller. The other worked with the big propeller for months and then it just started to hit the shroud for no reason. After that I ran them with the smaller 1600gph impellers with minimal clicking. Now I just rely on my Vortech MP40 and Tunze Stream(1875gph on a controller).

No its not on a wavemaker. Its an intermittant buzzing, vibration sort of sound. I'm using it on a mj400, its on the magnet mount. There website says it might make noise during break in I notice, I wonder how long to let it "break in" before I e-mail them.

Well at least it is not clicking like mine did. The hum or buzz was always there as I remember. I only have mine as a backup now incase something happens to my vortech or tunze.

I removed it last nite. Got tired of listening to the buzzing. Worth a shot for 16 bucks, but in the end too loud for me.
