ok.. so I've always wanted to do a frag tank, but right now i just dont have the $$ to throw into another entire system. I do have an extra 10g that isn't used for ANYTHING out in the garage. I also have a PFO retro kit for 2XVHO's. I guess my question is with 150w VHO, what would I be able to grow? I've never had a coral tank that small before, so I just don't know. I realize it isn't a great gauge, but if you go with g/w thats 15w / g, which sounds like enough for most anything.

As far as flow.. I'd go BB and use a few modded Mj 1200's that are just laying around. I can't imagine I would need more than that in a 10g tank.

Lemme know what you think.

Thanks.

Can you fit the 10g in your stand? I have my 20 gal long frag tank next to my main tank. I pump water to it from my sump and drilled the top odge of it to overflow back to my sump. This works becuase it always has the same parameters as my main tank. I put a few snails in there, a couple different levels of eggcrate shelfs for the frags, a koralia 4 and a koralia nano. Works fine. I light mine with 2 x 75 watt VHO that just hang a bit over the edge of the frag tank and just rest on its rim. Crappy looking but the SPS frags do fine on the top tier and the few softies I have frags of sit on the bottom teir.

If you can build a small shelf for it in your stand and drill it with a glass drill or dremel and tie it into your main system then you would be golden. Otherwise it would be a whole new tank to moniter and maintain.

Hows the new tank coming along anyhow?

New tank is doing great. I recently got my Ca and Alk lvls to balance out ok. This is actually the ONLY tank I've EVER had up this long with absolutely NO algae of ANY KIND on any of the LR. It's kind of strange honestly. I attribute most of this to yellow tang who eats EVERYTHING GREEN, and a decent sized clean up crew.

Overall things are going great.

I'll look into tying it into the main tank. The problem is I'm pretty sure its a tempered tank. It's one from wallmart I think. I can't remember the brand. I actually have a few extra bulk heads lying around too. If i can get one of them installed on the upper end of the tank, I guess I could just feed it with a small MJ and let it gravity feed back down into the sump.

Great.. thanks for MORE inspiration haha.. thats ALL I NEEED. I won't tell the wife who it was this time.

meh.. not enough room in the main stand to do much of anything in there. I think I can maintain a small tank with water changes. I'm pretty good at keeping up with them, and it wouldn't take much water to change out on a 10g.

I'll have to mull it over.
