I don't know if this topic fits here but I think is a priority... please administrators leave it here.

There's a new bill...
Anyone with pet fish, birds, reptiles, or small mammals will be affected by this bill. Any company selling product or services for pet fish, birds, reptiles or small mammals will be affected by this bill. Would you be impacted by "The Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act"?

Plese follow the link and vote no...

I can't believe it!

Hmm. It appears this bill doesnt actually BAN imported animals, but gives the Secretary of the Interior more power to ban specific species. Im sure they are using the public image of pythons being loosed in the everglades to promote this. Interesting because there's only one Florida Rep out of the 13 cosponsors. Most, and I mean MOST imported species cannot survive in the state you live in when released. Iguanas, pythons, turantulas, parrots, ehem..Yellow Tangs.... wont survive in the wild here.

Im cool with this thread staying here, not everyone reads the "Industry Behind the Hobby" thread. Thanks for the link.
Don't think she was suggesting moving it but rather informing you of the other conversation ;)

Well, can I assume you folks read that other thread? If so, what do you think about the assertions of others that this won't even get out of committee? Have you noted the sponsors? I think it's entirely possible that we could see this fail, yet the language could be slipped in another bill, passed, et voila, shti outta luck for anyone who wants to own or keep anything other than a... what, a trout? Better be a native trout!

Yep I read it. Im sure any pea brained politician would realize that this would be political suicide as most voting citizens own an "exotic pet" as defined. However prohibition still got through in the 20's which was political suicide then too. Its a scary thought. One thing for sure, I emailed my rep and senator, and if this thing does pass....I'm movin to Fiji baby cause this country has officially flipped its lid. (Note I am a die hard American, but common...its getting embarrasing to be American)

over all US pet trade tops 50 billion annually. That is not counting what the industry spends on other things, like marketing, bottles, labels, ingredients, labor, etc.

I've not only emailed and called em all, I've sent out emails to all my friends/family, got local pet stores and DVM's involved as well as local SPCA. I also sent emails to all industry people I know, and my suppliers.

Oh and with the Dems in power this one may not pass, but surely expect it to come back yet again in a different form and that one may pass. it's best to treat them all like they'd pass IMO.
