Hi,

I am new to the aquarium hobby. I bought a 120gallon from a guy who has all sorts of life in this tank. I am just needing some help identifying the corals and iverts at this point. I have 20 more corals and inverts I need identified. Can give you a donation for helping me out.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

James

Hey James,

1. Acropora sp. - will need strong lighting and good flow, with water as clean as you can get it (i.e. I hope you also got a decent protein skimmer with the purchase).

2. Green Star Polyps (Pachyclavularia sp) - generally hardy and will spread easily (hence a lot of people put it on a rock separate from the rest of the rockwork, so that it doesn't end up covering the entire tank).

3. Looks like a largeish Discoma sp. to me. Will do better in a less intensely bright position than the Acropora. If the lights are metal halide, I'd put this near the bottom of the tank, or maybe slightly out of the direct light, slightly shaded by a rock overhang etc. Also hardy.

Welcome to the hobby! Let's see some more pictures of your new set up!

Tom

Phew. Just logged in again. 8O

I'll try and do this in order to keep track of what I'm trying to ID.

So, second lot = 1st: pipefish (not sure what species - you'll need loads of live rock to keep him well fed - you might also think about cultivating copepods or something similar to feed him) and yellow polyps (Parazoanthus gracilis).

3rd lot - all Discoma sp, plus an Acropora in the first pic. Needs as already explained.

4th lot: another Discoma sp (common name - Mushroom Coral), Euphyllia divisa (Frogspawn coral) and what looks like a Pocillopora damicornis to me.
