I see these guys for sale as frags all over the place. My question is how long does it takes these frags to become a nice (30-40 buttons) colony? I would like to get some of them if they dont take 3 years to become noticeable in a tank.
I love Zoas and Palys, they can be some of the most colorful corals out there and generally are very hardy. Some grow faster than others though, for instance my eagle eyes would go from a 5 polyps frag to a nice colony in months where other might barely pop a new zoa in that time. Like the bowser paly supposedly only pops a new one about every 7 months, yet my rainbow palys grow like crazy.
Be careful! Zoas and Palys are very addicting. I would have never dreamed a couple years ago that I'd have 30 different kinds of Zoas and Palys and always looking for more. You'll start out making fun of all the names and the next thing you know you just Have to find some Darth Mauls or Valentines Day Massacres.
Like Ben said they have different growth rates. Generally the cheaper they are the quicker they grow.
