I managed to introduce bubble algae from my tank at work to my one at home, and it is getting out of hand. I tried an emerald crab but it preferred to eat coral. Any other options? I have a good skimmer and copious macroalgal growth, and AFAIK not a lot of excess nutrients.

They are not too bad to remove by hand. Give them to your kids, and tell them they are sailor's eyeballs :D

I know, but I hate sticking my hands in the tank. It gets my armpit hair wet, and then I can't do a thing with it.

Have you tested the water for phos and nitrates lately? You may have more than you think. I hate that damn valonia, the only way I've gotten rid of it is to starve it out by competition with toms of macro. One thing you can do is a "detrious storm" in the main tank by blasting water into crevices where the stuff settles and then if you have a sump ivacuum it and get out any gack that has settled. Get that crap into suspension and out of the tank.

Try other emerald crabs. Mithrax scuptus has always worked for me ... to the point that Valonia isn't much of a scare for me anymore. Maybe I've been lucky ;)

I beat it once with a combination of emerald crabs and harvesting by hand. It took a few weeks, but once gone never came back.

Scrub it off and run a canister filter or net it up to get off the majority of it. Diadema and tuxedo urchins and rabbitfish should whittle it down to nothing. I don't like Mithrax crabs when they get big.
