Sand Type vs Pod Population

In preparing for my tank upgrade I was discussing the different types of sand with a fellow reefer and this question came up..

Has anyone found the differences in sand affect their pod population?

I was told that when the ESV sand is viewed under a microscope it appears very jagged and that pods don't particularly like to live in it.

I'm curious to know if those with the following sand types have high or low populations of pods visible in their tanks.
If you could answer with the type of sand you have..aragonite, silicate based or the ESV sand and whether you think one is more beneficial over the others.

Kathy if i were you i would mix the ESV with another sand type. For one its just too white and clean and anything on it makes it look dirty, as well as the sand naturally looking like your tank was filled with sugar =0)

I've noticed a big difference on pods on my glass since i switched over to ESV. Not so many now as i used to have, even with a mandarin all this time. But on the other hand i've noticed alot of gasses coming out of the sand b/c of the natural filtration which is a big plus if thats the reason your adding the sand. The coarse grain really adds to the surface area. When i was using the crushed arg live sand before it was much less. Don't know if you can classify how much bio filtration by the amount of gasses its releasing but.... =0)

IMO if i was going to redo my sand bed i would go 50/50 mix or a 75/25 arg/ESV.
