do each speices get a long with one another? Can you put more than one speices in a tank?

yes/Maybe/sometimes/never, yes depending on previous answer.

Most anthias get along peacefully. There are cases where lesser/smaller are attacked and destroyed.

so...usually, but not always...how that for vague....if you have specific animals in mind we might have more specific response...

Yep. Depends on the species. Some can cohabit just fine, and others are big time bullies. In large enough a tank, they often can learn to exist peacefully after establishing a pecking order.

You'll get the most problems between aggressive males of different species.

I was thinking something like a male purple queen, 3 purple queen females, either 2 disbars / barletts, 2 tri color, and 2 lyretail. Something like this. I dont know if i get all females, if one would change into a male or not. Of course it is all subject to change.

I'd avoid the purple queens altogether. They are very tough to get eating well. In addition, they'd likely get bullied by the lyretails.

In general pairs/trios don't end up working out well because the larger of the 2 or 3 will constantly harass the others. If you get a larger group of a single species the aggression tends to be diffused out.

I think a pretty wicked awesome anthias is the Randall's anthias, P. randalli. They are not terribly difficult to acquire and are usually relatively cheap. Feeding is pretty easy as they will take large chunks of food. They are mid-range as far as aggression goes, they tend to bicker amongst each other but given enough space and plenty of current you should be fine. I have a shoal of 9 of them in a 250 gallon. There are 2 males and one half-male, the rest are females. I acquired them all as small females and they change sex all on their own if fed well. The females are rather drab but the males are...well see for yourself. 8)

Speak of the devil, I'm going to try mixing Anthias in my new tank :). I have some Bimacs already but will be adding a trio of P.flavoguttatus. I'll let you guys know how that goes ;)

Right now, the stock list is:
1 Black Tang
1 Joculator angel
1 Borbonius anthias (will be 2 in the future)
1 Helfrichi firefish (will be 2 in the future)
2 Yasha Hash gobies
2 Bimac anthias (soon to be 4-5)
1 P.flavicaunda anthias (hopefully more ... my single was beat up by my male Bimac for the longest time, but they're ok now).
3 P.flavoguttatus anthias

I'll be getting a pair of Tinker's Butterfly too along with a pair of fairy wrasses (TBD). I might add one or two other fish after that, then I'm done.

I forgot about this thread :P FYI: The Bimacs got along fine withe the Flavoguttatus. They're quite different in size and shape. My Bimac did bully my former P.flavicuanda, but they got along after a while (after the Bimac established its dominance). If you tank is large enough, you should be ok mixing anthias that are super aggressive.

You think some ventralis would do well in there? These are not good pics, but this is my flav trio.

Are you kidding me ... not good pics? Those are excellent pics :D

Gorgeous gorgeous fish!

I think ventralis would get along as they're rather shy and not terribly aggressive. I love ventralis, but they're too delicate for my tastes.

My limited experience thus far is no :) They haven't been state-side very often until the recent batch. You see them more in Japan.

Cool. I'll look out for them when I get there. 8)

Are they any less jumpers than the wrasses?

All are jumpy. Ventralis should get along fine with flavoguttatus if they have the same temperament/behavior as P. lori (they're very closely related). P. lori is right near the bottom of aggressiveness in Pseudanthias.
