Ballast or bulb??

I just changed a bulb in a fixture last night. It is an aqua-medic 250w de pendant. It seemed to work ok last night, but when I got home from work the light was out. The fixture was still hot, so I knew the bulb just went out. As I was standing there, it popped back on , but the ballast was buzzing really loud and the the bulb got very bright and then when off again. I took the bulb out and reset it in the sockets, and checked the plugs to the ballast, but same thing. The ballast is a magnetic type, and about 5 years old. Any ideas??

Sounds like the new bulb. Put the old bulb back in and see if the problem goes away.
