Hi everyone. I am new to reefkeeping. I have had freshwater all my life, and decided to venture into salt. I currently have a 55g with a 20 long refugium, about 40 lbs liverock, a few fish, etc... I just got the Octopus 100F hang on back protein skimmer. I CANNOT get it to work. I have searched extensively for threads relating to this topic and found some advice, all of which I have tried. I cannot get the initial siphon to engage. I have put airline tubing in and sucked out the air, no luck. I have even taken a powerhead and pumped water in, still no success. Does anyone have any advice? Please help.

Sorry Dashin, but I've not owned this skimmer myself. When I had problems with my current skimmer when I first bought it (an Octopus Super Reef), I first tried to get advice online, but the best help I got in the end was from the vendor I purchased it from (Premium Aquatics). Try ringing the vendor and see if they can help. If they can't and the problem seems to be with the skimmer itself, maybe they can replace it for you.

Can you clue us in on what you've tried already?

Does the siphon even start to flow? - If it starts and then stops, your water levels need adjusted. Either raising the tank water or lowering the height of the hang on somehow (if it allows for that) should get and (for the most part) keep things moving.

Giving us an idea of what you've tried already though will help us keep from reinventing the wheel and hopefully get you to a solution quicker.
