I bought a really cool jaw fish about 2 weeks ago. He started making some cool caves in a couple different places. Then my doty back that shouldn't be in the tank started giving him a hard time. Long story short, I got rid of the doty back and found the jaw fish hard a rock on the floor the other morning. I really liked this fish and want one in the tank. Are they know to be jumpers or did the doty back scare the daylights out of him to the point where he had to get out, even though it was gone? Will I need to put the lid back on the tank with a jaw fish?

In my experience they're flighty fish and if attacked or surprised they'll jump. As long as you don't have anything as aggressive as the dottyback a new jawfish should be ok I think. I've always kept covers on tanks with fish.

I really hate using lids or mesh covers. I have one that I made out of deer neting but I hate it.

I just placed an order for a blue spotted jaw fish. Will they get it for me, we'll see... I'm not holding my breath.

It seems to be the time of year where all fish jump. I recently got a pair of Red Hooded Fairy Wrasses. Everything was fine. They got along great with the other fish and both ate like pigs. A week after I got the pair, I found the female on the ground. How she got there is beyond me because the tank is actually covered in all but one spot and the wrasse was nowhere near that open area. It remains a mystery.
