Hello,

I have this algae problem for about 6 months now and just can not get rid of this stuff. I took a pick of the pump AC cord it shows it best here but also have it on my rocks also. The water parameters check good, did notice my PH a little low about 3 months ago. I'm getting so frustrated as I have to work on this daily. Any tips on what this is and how to get rid of is really appreciated it. I am doing water changes every 3 weeks.

I have a bit of this algae remaining on my return nozzles, but not on my rock where my Tiger Trochus graze (only snails in my tank). I used to have more of it, but I have since added GFO and more GAC. I'm not sure if it's the chemical media that helped, if the Tiger Trochus got to it, or a combination of the two.

GFO - granular ferris oxide, a phosphate remover use in reactors. GAC - granular activated carbon. I use both in my reactor and my problem algae is almost completely gone.

I placed some GAC using the mesh bag for 3 days and then did a water change this brown algae is getting worse. I just checked the phosphate and this checks good. Appreciate your thoughts.

GAC will remove some organics, but GFO is for phosphates. You are getting a false zero on your phos tests due to the algae using it up. Adding GFO will remove the phos so the algae cannot use it, and dies. Manually pulling it by hand also helps. Are you using RO/DI water for your makeup and water changes? If so are the membranes in need of changing?

It has to be the water, I'm getting it from the local mills. so you saying that the water can be bad from the Mill and already have phosphates or other problems. Can the mill water be checked.
