sea swirl is it worth it

is anybody using sea swirls are they worth doing?

I'm using a Sea-Swirl. However, "worth" is determined by each individual based on available funds. They are cheaper ways to accomplish returning water to your tank from the sump. It's up to you to decide how much you're willing to spend to do so. When I first started this hobby, Sea-swirls were not "worth it" to me. Now that reefing has taken a larger portion of my expendable cash, I think they are.

I'm just starting to get into reefs, and was able to obtain 2 used ones for the price of 1 on ebay. I have one hooked up to a cannister filter and other to my return pump from my refugium. It definitely adds diverse water movement. I added some pipe extension and changed to head to create a different current. Price wise, would try and get them used, very expensive to just change direction of the water.

Sea Swirls are almost necessary if you do not have other water movement such as a closed loop with random flow. (IMO)

What about one of those rotating water deflectors you attach to a power-head? Anybody used one of those?

I personally don't think they are worth it. I owned one and traded it away after a while ago. To much money for a cheap looking product thats also so freaking bulky. If you get one tighten it real good because it isn't submersible.

I have two of them for the past 3 or 4 years. they are great. never had a problem.

I love mine. I've had it running now for 2 years with no problems at all. My fish and corals love the currents it produces.

I think that they are great! I use 2 in my tank and they create some very interesting water movement. However, they will eventually stop working and customer service with the company has been rather spotty IMO.

i have 120 high tank 60inche long i have one sea swirl now 3/4 should i added more help[
