So I woke up today and noticed severe red blotchy iretation near the tail of a blue chromis. And now there is some stringy looking hanging down by his belly. Breathing seems elevated. I've got pics but not sure how to upload them here. What should I do? Take him out? Or wait a little longer.

Hard to tell without pictures. To upload pictures, use the "upload file" section on the reply. Is the stringy stuff hanging out from the anus of the fish? I'm leaning towards an internal parasite here. What else is in the tank?

Its to late. I put him in the freezer last night. The red fleshy spot near the rear dorsal fin got worse over night and he wasn't eating. Gonna take him back to the fish store and see if they know. Id show a pic but the iPhone won't let me upload right now.

Bummer. This kind of problem is common with chromis.

More information would be helpful for questions like these/

Tank size, parameters other inhabitants, etc. That way things can be ruled out and advice given. For instance, without knowing what is in the tank, we can't recommend treatments.

What is it Thales that you are referring to? A parasite or bacterial infection?

These were tank raised fish. Nice sized ones too.

What does that mean? Did you get them from a store that had them for years before you purchased them?

We are still lacking any information that would allow us to be helpful. :D
