coral food

I am starting a 29g reef tank with some soft corals zonathids and mushrooms, some soft corals will be leathers and colt corals as well as xenia. My one question is what is a good prepared food out there for soft corals and the above, and also what are some good places to get starter corals from. I was looking into bluesooaquatics they seemt o have very good prices

I wouldn't worry too much about feeding your corals, especially on a young tank. They'll (soft corals) do just fine with the light you have and absorbing other nutrients from the water and fish excrement.

The only thing I would consider feeding is the zoanthids. They'll grow and produce more polyps if you feed them. Roti-Feast, Oyster-Feast or Arcti-Pods are great for them.

Hey Gresh, from your experience is it obvious when zoas are feeding? I never saw my zoas feeding in my last tank, but maybe I wasn't feeding the right food or in the right way.

IME they usually show a very obvious feeding response; they clamp down and close up rather quickly.

And I assume when your feeding the corals as well as fish you keep the power heads on and protein skimmer off

Thanks Craig/Gresh. I always saw that with palythoas, but not with zoas. Or am I mixing up my terms here?

Nope, you're not mixing them up. Palys are for sure more aggressive eaters IME.

I feed cyclopeze and I leave the skimmer and powerheads on. If I feel a colony is not getting any I target feed it with a turkey baster.
