I looking for ones that do this. Is there some grades of GFO that regenerate better then others?

I have done it with all 3 types of GFO media from bulk reef supply. The pricey hard black GFO media they sell holds up best during the process. YMMV. :)

Thank you for the reply. I was thinking no one was on the Forum. I do not see 3 types only two the Non high capacity and the high capacity. So you mean pricey hard black is the high capacity?
How many time does it work for you for regeneration?

You've got the author now, but in the future you can always post a comment on the article and the author will get back to you :)

Checker sorry I am new to this forum and did not know all the ways to get to has to the video to ask who make it questions. Can I ask what GFO you were using for regenerating? Also as to when and how do you know when it time to get new GFO as old is no good any more?

Ah, they've changed their options. So that "non-HC" stuff is either granular or pelletized. It is exactly the same stuff just different size grades. They are both called Bayoxide E33 (or E33P for the pelleted stuff).

The pricey hard stuff is the high capacity, yes. I find it to be worth the price difference. You can regenerate it around 10 times or so IME before it starts to become more trouble than its worth. At a certain point it creates so much back pressure that you would need a huge pump to push water through it. That's when I just replace it.

Matt, where do you get Bayoxide E33 at? I may have missed it some where listed the company that sales it we still talking about BRS? Also to the article I was going to put in there a question but I saw the last ones were 2 years old posted and did not think it was still open. So on that how long can you post a question on a articles?

Hi again, sorry for the confusion! Bay oxide 33 and the BRS stuff are the same thing. Bay oxide is just the trade name for industries other than aquariums. :) You can buy it from BRS. There are other brands of GFO that would likely work fine but that is the one we tested.

You should be able to post questions on the article still. Either place is fine to ask and we should answer your question eventually. :)

Matt thank you your help in this. I see that BFS has stop selling the pellets so i going with high yield GFO.

Matt,
I forgot to ask as what is the valve for from the pump when doing the GFo? Also do you test it before you use the recycled GFO if it okay to use and if so what tests?

Hi there, I used the valve to adjust the flow down when the media is new. An MJ1200 is a bit too much flow. Another problem I encountered was that the sodium hydroxide eats up the plastic portion of the impeller. This takes about 4-5 regeneration cycles. I switched to a Mag 2 pump with much better results.

To verify the GFO is well rinsed you should flush it with water and then do a phosphate test on the effluent.

Matt,
I using a MJ400. Then what tells you that have the right flow set at coming though the GFO has if I get a MAG 2 or other pump I have on hand a trickle or what please go more detail ? The Phosphate test is at zero?
