restart a tank

Need to decide to go with acrylic or glass, and how big. Have some old tanks from 3 gal to 600 gal, but feel that they are scratched up that I will need to spend days polishing them, so was a bit on the glass side right now.

I am more on the invert side (pref. clams and corals, both hard and soft), not a fish person, but will be keeping clowns and mandarin or two depend on the size of tank. I am thinking about cutting one side of the 600 gal up and convert it into a 200 gal tank by cementing a new front into it. But I feel that labor will be making it not worth the hassle. I also prefer to built my own stand, but may consider pre-made one if they are good quality.

I started up a 65 gallon a year ago, had some set backs, but its on the upswing again...now that the roomates are moving out, I have wall space to put a larger tank in the basement(wife wants to make their old room the game room -X-box 360, kinect, 110" projection screen...) and the 165 I was trying to get rid of, is now an idea for a fish only...problem is, how often will I be in that room(reef tank is upstairs, main floor, in the den) to enjoy/pay attention to the tank?

I can put my tank in the dinning room, and it would have tons of space there, but I will run into the same problem like you do, and not really get to enjoy the view as much. This is why I always have my tanks in the family room, when I spend most of my waking hours. One concern I have is what happen when I make a spill. This is why I do not want it in any room with the laminated flooring.
