for years, I like a good many others have used rubber bands to attach seaweed/nori to a section of tubing or a rock in order to feed their tangs and other herbivorous fish...yesterday, as usual, I came home, and after checking through the mail, I went to look in on my reef tank, and fish...and had a wtf/panic moment- my Sailfin Tang, swimming happily around, had the rubber band I used the night before to hold his nori to the tubing I use to feed him with, hanging from his arse like a cat who ate the Christmas tinsle!
as I sat there freaking out about what I should do- should I try to catch him(yeah right - took me a week to catch my old Scopas tang) and pull it out like one does with the cat? Do I let nature take its course??? As I sat there pondering my(more like my fish's) dilemma, I suddenly wished I had been recording video of this - the sailfin swims up and around this one rock, and the rubber band catches on the rock...looking like a dog pulling on its leash trying to get at a squirrel, it started to swim faster and yet not going anywhere...then POP! his butt lets go of the rubber band and he shoots across the tank and face plants on the far side glass!
Many guffaws later, it appears the tang is no worse for wear, hogging all the fish pellets, swimming around as if nothing happened, no visible woulds opr tears that I can see as he darts passed...
Strangest damned thing I have ever seen. Anyone ever hear of this happening to any other fish, or do I just happened to have a complete moron for a fish?
