I've asked the same question and the response I get is to mix it for less than 30 seconds and let it settle overnight. Overmixing will introduce oxygen and cause the calcium to precipitate. I was originally mixing for about 2 minutes by hand but was getting alot of precipitation, I'm sure it was a mix of impurities and calcium.

How much are you mixing in a batch? The only problem I seem to be having using this method is a pH spike. I somewhat resolved this by adding about 1 1/2 of vinegar to the limewater solution. I dont get anymore spikes but I do have to clean the glass more often since the vinegar can lead to bacterial blooms. I use about 1 1/2 tsp per gallon of ro/di water.
