Filter Brand and Type

So, starting up 36 nano. Filter shopping and will have to purchase online. Need suggestions for best filter. Bio ball medium or other? Will HOB filter work for this size tank? Lighting options would be helpful as well, and where to shop. Mainly soft, lps and couple of fish. Thanks.

Will the filter be the only water movement? Or is there a powerhead as well? How many fish?

I'd suggest buying a protein skimmer and a sump. I no longer use any "filters" per se. I instead rely on live rock, filter socks, the protein skimmer, and maybe some sponges here and there to function as filtration and (in the case of the protein skimmer) nutrient export.
