My 9 inch deresa clam has been going south for about a week now and I've only just gotten a chance to really inspect it (I've been doing water changes and keeping parameters up hoping the problem would correct itself. So the clam looks worse and worse, and I pick it up to examine it in tank and my fingers stick to the side of the clam. And really stick. I turn the clam around and it is COVERED in these little anemones that I have never seen before. Not aiptasia, they had a red base and longish tentacles that ended in bulbs (almost like frogspawn).

I don't have a picture but does anyone know what these things are? They have a heck of a sting and may have done in my clam.

Well I removed the little bastards and I am going to give the clam a chance to recover (he just had an unpleasant enounter with a bucket of saltwater and a toothbrush) Hopefully it will recover without the FWD. If its not better tomorrow I will dip it.

I found out i have more of these things in my tank. I have no idea where they came from as I havent added anything to the tank in months.

They sound like a kind of Mojano, which are considered by some to be a weed like aptaisia. Some people however consider them something worth keeping and even selling...check on ebay under pink tip or rose anemone.

Not mojanos either -- the tentacles are transparent, ending in white bulbs. I am going to try to get a picture. They are very small - not more than three centimeters each. I am assuming they are anemones, but maybe they are something else.

I found these on the Tampa Bay Saltwater site under unknown anemone.
