Ok guys, im sure that this question has been asked. I tried to search for "water changes" but the search engine was only using the word "water" so i will ask again. Sorry if it has been asked a million times.

Anyway. My tank 175 reef (well becoming) is my first reef tank. My first tank was fish only, and i lost interest in it because i didnt have time to really work with the tank in the maintanence dept.

But what i am seeing is that the reef water quality has never dipped since last water change. My levels are text book perfect. So the real question, is there really a point in doing a water change if there is no problems with the water quality????

Like noob said, it's to replace trace elements. If you're dosing EVERYTHING, then water changes aren't needed to replace what you're already supplmenting

Water changes also remove impurities. Nasty stuff that your fish are swimming around in/corals are living in. Sure, you can go long times without a change if your levels are 'perfect.' But I bet you'll notice a big difference when you do a big water change. Your corals will like you for it.

Also, water changes help to dilute the chemical warfare going on between your corals

When you use a search engine instead of typing "water changes", put "water changes reef aquariums". The more words you put that relates to your topic in a search engine, the more accurate the results will be.

Also i read somewhere its best to always use the same salt brand and never mix with different brands when doing water changes. Its sort of like acclimating you livestock to a new environment all over again. Is this true?
