LFS in LI?

Hi,
I just moved out to Stony Brook and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good LFS or two, as well as general pet stores, in the area? Being that I am currently ( temporarily hopefully ) reefless, I need something with a good FW selection. I found a decent place on Rt 25 but the prices are a bit high.

Country Critters is probably the best. Good selection of oddball & normal stuff. They just put a bunch of new reef tanks on the back wall that were packed with frags last time I was out there a few weeks ago. Great selection of plumbing/dry goods too. Had some conversion fittings there that I had a hard time finding locally.

I wouldnt waste your time at counrty critters unless you like being treated like crap and paying way too much.
IMOH these are two of the best in Suffolk

suffolk reef and fish. Its closer to you than country critters because you are on the north shore.... Best selection of fish on LI... amazing corals also... And they are cool, they will frag out whatever you want, right on the spot. Their fresh water selection is also pretty good...

Country Critters is also pretty bad ass... I goto both of them.

I've never been to Aqua Hut, but PW has awful service compared to CC. The people there are always negative, and the livestock always looks like trash. I've worked out good deals at CC on multiple occasions, just be nice to them and they return the favor.

Never been treated poorly in Country Critters, and while there livestock carries a premium I have never gotten anything but healthy specimins and they have healthy looking tanks, whcih I am willing to pay for.

I have never been to aqua hut, but will check it out next time I am out that way. (I was in Stony Brook last night)

Petwarehouse, has a nice wide selection and good prices. Their tanks are not as healthy looking as Country Critters, and I always get the impression that they are a volume buisness. I also find it much harder to get help there than at Country Critters.

Mutts and Butts is another good store and i know what you mean about the cashiers.:wink1:
I've tried to be nice at CC but they don't won't even acknowledge you,when you finally do get somebody to help ,you feel like your bothering them..I've walked out more once and I probably wont ever go back!

Another vote for Aqua Hut, they have well kept tanks, decent prices, and know their stuff. I've been using/going to them for 10+ yrs. I moved to New Hyde Park, and still stop by there whenever I'm in the area. I really wish they were closer.

If your looking for talant go to Mutts ans Butts -- Joe there is actually a pretty good guy and if you start askin for deals on some corals he will drop the price some.

Country Critters -- was there yesterday and the service still sucks. It's like a long Island Fishtown!!

Pets warehouse is not bad at all!!!! pretty good deals there. But I must be honest after just starting to do some work for a local vendor I'll never buy any livestock from a store again!!!! These vendors work hard and are not making a ton of money off us reefers -- lets give the smaller guys the business!!!!! At least I will.

cc sucks will never go there again the people suck the store sucks just sucks i have dealing with don at aqua hut get there on friday night he gets all the stuff in on thursday. ifoumnd the only pet shop on long island that will help you asnd spend the time if you have questions and will not sell you something you dont need .

I live close to Pets Warehouse on Sunrise Highway in Copiague, New York....they seem to have good quality fishes and they last long. I usually order my supplies on the net but buy my live fish thru them. neveer had a problem......:cheekkiss
