best type of pump for ato

What is the ideal type of pump for an ato? Is it better to use a peristalic pump hooked up to a floatswitch for a slow introduction of freshwater, or should a quck pump such as a maxijet hooked up to a floatswitch be used to quickly restore evaporated water?

I like small diameter perastalic pumps like aquamedics.

I use a cheap ViaAgua pump with a small ball valve that it came with to slow the amount of water entering my sump.

I don't think our tanks should be as stable as we keep them. Mix it up, nature does it all the time and it works. Shut your lights off, add some fresh water, mix it up, your tank will thank you.

Add two VorTechs on opposite corners of your massive nano facing the same direction. That was too easy.

aqualifter. nice slow addition of water. cheap. I also like the fact that I have the pump externally.

The Tom's Aqualifter External Use Only Pump is what I us on my Automatic Top Off Unit. It's designed for the constant on/off workload and has a slow addition rate of 3 gallons per hour. The only draw back is that your restricted to about 18 to 24 inches of total distance from the water source of your Automatic Top Off Unit to the Aquarium. If you exceed this you will burn the pump out which can be repaired for $5.00 plus shipping & handling. But it great for a $12.00 purchase online and $24.00 in store.

i use the maxijet 404 also, it's not like with the ato it tops off gallons at a time, so pump really doesnt matter. id say mine kicks on when it goes down a 1\4 or a 1\2 at a time
