The number after the T has a direct correlation to the diameter of the bulb only. Intensity is determined by the wattage and then the reflector to maximize utilization of the light. T5's are great because of the reflector which utilize most of the light reflecting it back down.

Actually no T12 are the normal everyday fluorescent lights that don't do anything.

Are they better than PC's? No because we don't know the wattage and the PAR and what type of reflectors you are using. What type of ballast drives them?

Aqua traders is a ripoff. And their products have a habit of burning peoples houses down. Keep that in mind. You could probably get petter stuff here as cheap if you just post a WTB thread or search the FS forum.

If $ is an issue, and you're sticking to softies, maybe LPS only, I would get a Tek T5 retrofit setup with 2 bulbs, in the future, if you think you want more light, just add another 2 or 4 bulbs and you can handle some SPS.
Its better to get quality equipment from the start, rather then buy junk, and then buy more stuff. We've all been there, and trying to save money when buying essentials of reefing is not the way to go. You can save money on other things like dosing with home made 2 part, and joining group buys for other stuff.

If youre not doing a reef I wouldnt worry too much about your lighting, when I was a kid my father ran his tank with regular flourescent tubes for decades.

Yes, fish are not photosynthetic so they don't care about the intensity.
If you just want it brighter, then I would still go with T5's though because you can eventually go with reefs as a possibility
