Since Bob is directing his comment at me let me answer. My knowledge of this started when I was making a sump for figgy (Rob) several months back. He's a fireman in Queens who I gave the fireman's discount (I forgot about his tank before), less than cost. He was talking to me about lighting and I recommended Lumenarcs. I didn't know who sold them at the time but I thought reef exotics did so I said to him buy from reef exotics because they are a sponser on MR. Rob call's me back a few days and tells me he spoke to lumenarc to find out how many he should get and they told him about the the knock-offs. I asked him if he brought them from RE but he decided to buy direct since he was already on the phone. He didn't say anything about RE selling knock-offs or not, and told me to read the thread on RC.
Then last month I called lumenarc because I wanted to know how many to get for my setup. I still didn't know who sold the real ones but I saw the RE summer sale on them. So Dan answers the phone and the convo goes a little something like this.
Paul: I have blah blah blah blah...blah blah blah will one be enough coverage?
Dan: Yeah I think so.
Paul: So should I get it from Reef Exotics or does anyone have better pricing?
Dan: Umm, reef exotics hasn't order a lumenarc from me for half a year (maybe it was a year, don't remember exactly the time he said, but it had been a while).
Paul: (kinda in shock) But he has a summer sale going on now??
Dan: Yeah I know. Would you believe he was selling the stealths before we even shipped them out to our dealers? I actually brought one from him and was holding it before I sent anything out. I called him on the phone to ask him about and he said he was only taking pre-orders, this is while I was holding one he sent to a pseudo account in my hand. Do you know of any vendors on the east coast that I could trust?
Paul:ummmm (still in disbelief that he was telling all this to a complete stranger).
Bob, I double dare you, nah I triple dare you to call up Lumenarc, ask for Dan and ask who you should buy a one from on the east coast. Then come back to this thread tomorrow and explain what you found out, since your just the messenger. Maybe it was an off day for Dan or maybe it was because he just wrote an 11k check to his patent lawyer because of this but I could feel his pain thru the phone.
