question: what causes the skimmer cup to overflow? it happens everyday almost...mostly when i add top off...i have the gate valve..should i take it off and use the pvc-sponge thing..that came with the skimmer...recently cleaned sedra and air tube? 3 monthes ago..the gate valve is fully open

Had same problem cleaned out pump and air and it stoped .it happen especially when i do water changes.

There's a substance in your top-off causing increased foaming. Are you using Stress Coat?

no.....and the skimm is watery when it overflows?...and yea when i do water changes
it always happens..i just mess with the gate valve mod should i just put the sponge pvc tube in and raise it as needed??..or would you say the gate valve is better?

you have something causing from your ato or waterchange bucket or salt, i have the same skimmer and dont have that problem, using a sock or not also

Did you use any epoxy recently to mount some corals?
That could cause your skimmer to go a little crazy.

Does the air hose come with an air valve on it? If not you should put one on. This will let you control the bubbles and you can actually stop the water from overflowing and get it skimming again.

I recently changed my pump, Sendra 3500, and I had the same problem, the water was overflowing. I placed an air valve on the end of the air hose and was able to adjust the bubbles and get the skimmer working again.
