Ray:
You would use one like one pictured below (shorter of course) to cover the strainer.
It has no back.
I would not rely on "natural suction" (whatever that is).
All it takes is a little silicone to keep it in place.

What natural suction is occuring with an internal overflow box?

12 gallon jbj nano has a overflow option that is sucked to the hole that is drilled in the back of the tank through water flow..with out the flow it will not stick to hole that the water is flowing out of the display part of the tank through...
Natural suction would probably not be that good for a regular tank now that I think about it..

I just search overflow boxes online and cannot come up with this black box. I come up with the regular ones. Anyone can tell me where I can get it or who makes it...

I always put tape(I use duct tape) on the others side of the glass where I am going to dtrill. This help reduces the glass from cracking, chipping, etc.
