I just found this on one of my rocks. I bought a leather coral from Fishtown a year & a half ago & it came on this rock. The leather died since it got stung by my frogspawn (no so sure now). Since then, another hitchhiker has emerged-what I think is a hairy mushroom.
I keep seeing this long stringy mucus like stuff coming from the rock. Upon closer inspection I found what appears to be a corraline covered "trap door" of sorts, with some creature inside. It is circular & about 1/8 - 1/16" in diameter.
When I use the turkey baster to suck up the slime, the creature goes inside the rock & shuts the "trap door" beind it. I just saw the door open up & excrement, much like that of hermit crabs was let out. What could this be? Corals are being eaten in the general area this rock was located.
Sorry for the crappy pic.
