Sorry to ask a stupid question, as I have never seen a calcium reactor work before. How does something like a milwakee instrument PH probe actually control the Calcium reactor or does it simply just tell you what the PH is and it is your job to adjust the CO2/bubble counter?

Thinking of buying one or making my own, but want to get the full understanding first.

Whats new GQ! This link helped me out alot.

http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-05/sh/feature/index.php

It depends on the type of calcium reactor you have. Some have an option where the PH probe sits inside the actual reactor so you know what the PH is inside. If you want to use a controler you would install the probe in your sump or display and if the PH fell below a certain point it would cut off the CO2 going into your reactor. This way your PH won't bottom out because of the CO2.

Not much, finally situated in my new apt, and got the perfect spot for a sweet tank. Im doing heavy planning right now, so im going to be asking alot of questions. This second time around I feel ive learned from all my mistake in the past so hopefully my future tank will be on tank of month!!

G,

I think PH controllers are overrated (but that's my opinion) - I have never once had any problems with my PH and Co2 in my tank - the lowest I have ever seen my PH was 8.06 - and that was in my basement of the old house with the old 180.

If you have any questions, feel free to call me - I am not an expert, but "i get it" and have been running a dual chamber reactor for 3 yrs now - I love it.
