Well I figured as long as I was going up to CT. to visit friends I might as well stop by Greenwich Aquaria to see Jason and his store. I popped in and the store is beautiful. It is well appointed and focused on the hobby. From Freshwater planted tanks and fauna to where most of my attention was directed which was of course "The Reef Tanks".

The first thing that hits you is the tanks themselves. Visually they are outstanding with clarity (no algea/coralline on the glass), the lighting systems (Sfiligoi halide systems) and the water movement system (Black Wavysea's). As pleasing as the tanks were, the corals inside them were way more spectacular. I am used to the normal fare. Some cheap chalices, leather corals with tan or no color, some blasto's. You know... crap :) To my delight, they had some off the wall colorful LPS and soft corals that you usually see in books. I don't normally look at LPS/softy tanks because it isn't my thing but this was like WOW!

The SPS sale tank looks more like a true hobbiests home tank than of a sale tank. The corals are all arranged well, the colors are crazy and the types are numerous. Again, this was not a tank full of tort, brown stags that might color up or blue encrusting that might turn into a superman 'like" monti... I mean stuff like the Supergirl Monti, Blue loripes, Turaki and more. No I refuse to tell you what I got from Jason... Nope I won't do it.;)

The fish selection is just as great. The only thing I didn't see was copperband butterflies. When I asked for one the answer was 'I can have it in for you in a few days if you want and they personally pick the fish for the store.

I actually sat there and talked to Jason and the guys for an hour before I turned the corner to look at the Main show display tank.. WOW did my jaw drop! If they ever have a brake-in and find just clippers and size 13 shoe prints, they will have me pegged for sure.:batangel:

I stayed in the shop for 3 hours just looking around. The guys were as friendly to talk as you would expect from a true hobbiest/business person. Between Greenwich Aquaria and Kedd's house, I have no more room for corals.

There are so many reason's to say the trip is worth it (only 45 min by car from Brooklyn) that I don't want to spoil it for anyone that makes the effort to get new additions for their tank that will have people asking "where did you get that from". Just tell them "I can't frag it right now" and keep them hungry..

Thanks Jason and the guy for the hospitality and the great experience,

Kasei

Pics taken with a POS point and shoot. The colors just didn't come out right. I got to get JHale over here soon.. But you get the idea. :) Enjoy

Shaun,

Glad to see you well again. I went up there mabe 7 month's ago and but they had just started getting stuff in. Even then he had some things that I had never seen in other stores. Yep I have to bring them a case of brew when I go back up to pick up my fish order in a week.

Jason, if you read this add the male/female squammies to my order. :) I will call you about it.

oh btw the softy tank is cool, there's an escaped small octopus in it, and a little hitch hiker mantis shrimp that sits on top of rock looking around the tank all the time.

the display tank is kind of nice to look at also if you like that kind of thing ;)
(big huge perfect reef tanks lol)

Now it seems like alot of people want to go up there. So lets try to get a day set when a group of us will make the trip. Carpooling or whatever and check out the store. Who would want to make the trip and what day/time is good for people ?

Not this saturday. Taking my kid to the zoo :)

Devious is going on friday the 19th with me but I might be able to convince him to change to sat if I promise to pick his ass up. That would mean more time to see stuff as I don't want to keep Jason open all night. So is the 20th ok ?
