Hi, This is my first time posting on Manhattan Reefs. I have a BioCube 29 with about 16-20 g of SW after LR. I've set up a ATO and have been toying with the idea of adding Kalk to the RO water supply. If I have a one liter container with saturated limewater, how much should I add to the 1 gallon ATO container?
OR am I looking at this whole thing illogically?
Thanks for your help. My 29g reef tank has been set up for about 8-9 mos. 2 clowns, some trocus snails, 2-3 red legged hermits, a green crab,
3 nassarius and a bunch of soft corals.
I'm a little nervous about kalk. This evening my Kdh was at 5-6 but Nitrates/nitrites/ammonia were 0. Animals seem to be doing well.
Thanks for your help. STEVE (CaptRev)

it can be done and lots of people do it, including Randy Homes Farley, whom most consider to be the authority on maintaining alk and calcium levels. As was mentioned though, you need to be aware of the calcification that will be going on inside your pump and tubing and deal with that accordingly.

It would be a good practice to perhaps monthly or bi monthly give them both a long vinegar bath.

Capt - welcome to Manhattanreefs from the other side of the country :)

A more important question is why do you want to add kalk to your system? do the animals warrant it? A system with that water volume should be able to sustain good livestock just through water changes alone.

Tell us a little more about what you're trying to accomplish.

Again, welcome to the family!
