Hello All,

I have a Cadlights open top tank that I finally got around to setting up. Cycled and going strong. Now I want to add my fish. I want to have a pair of clown fish and a fire fish as inhabitants. Is this a good idea? Are fire fish notorious for jumping? Will these fish be compatible? The only other thing that I'll add is a skunk cleaner shrimp or a fire shrimp. Just want some opinons of what others think about my stocking choices. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks:fish:

Hello,

Chief, thanks for the insight I guess the fire fish is a definite NO, NO:approve: What are your opinions on a Baggai Cardinal along with a pair of Clown Fish?

Also is it possible to keep a Cleaner shrimp with a Fire shrimp? Thanks for the help and saving me the $$$ and the grief!!!

Thanks:wink1:

sIf you place a screen on top of tank you can keep the fire fish or for that matter any fish that jumps. Do a search and you'll find a # of thread on how to make one.

You can keep a Cleaner and Fire shrimp together without a problem unless the tank is small. Cleaner shrimp usually do better in pairs while Fire shrimp usually are somewhat aggressive towards other Fire shimp.

Hello,

Thanks for helping to steer me in the right direction. I might try the fire fish with the screen if I do indeed go with that fish. I still want to get some feedback on the Baggai Cardinal if someone out there has one? Easy or hard to maintain? What does it eat and does it settle in comfortably in captivity? If and when I do get my Cleaner shrimp I'll be sure to get a pair.

Thanks:biglaugh:

Depending on the size of the tank and type of Clown you shouldn't have a problem keeping a Baggai Cardinal with a Clown or a Shrimp. They're easy to maintain and will eat flakes, pellets and other frozen foods. Just don't keep them with very aggressive fish. Since they like to hang in the water you should have a lot of flow, unless you have a large tank.

If you put two cleaner shrimp together they'll eventually pair off.

More important what size tank do you have?

Marrone,

The tank is the Cadlights 25 gallon. I don't want too much stuff and I'm definitely not trying to overstock. I just want some of the usual suspects:lol2: I'm thinking the pair of small clown fish and 1 other fish will be more than enough. Also a Cleaner Shrimp or pair of them and I'm done. So far everything is going great and I know and realize patience is a virtue when it comes to this hobby. It's looking like I'll do the Baggai Cardinal with the pair of Clown Fish!

Thanks:biggrin:

All of my tanks have been open top & I have always kept firefish, I have 2 now, one red & one purple. I have seen the purple one (3") skip on the top of the water when I spooked him but they have never jumped out on me. I did have a six bar goby (like firefish) that did jump a few times in the past.

I make sure to make a small den for them under a rock by excavating some sand. Becomes their hideout to dart into in lieu of up & out.

In my 29G I have 2 clowns, a firefish, a watchman goby and a cleaner shrimp. Everyone gets along well and I have an open top. I have heard that firefish are jumpers, but mine just hangs out in his rock hole and only comes out to eat. I have had him since july 2006.

Fire Fish are JUMPERS!

Hello,

Thanks for all those who have contributed! From all the different responses it looks like a crap shoot:D Like Forest Gump said "Fire Fish are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get" :D I'm hesitant but if I do go with the Fire Fish I'll probably do the screen. Really I'm starting to lean towards a Baggai Cardnial Fish.

Thanks:biggrin:

DEVIOUS!

Hello, Wow! I just opened the thread with the Baggai with the shrimp in its mouth. Looks like I'll have to give that one a NO, NO as well. I guess it'll have to be another fish to pair with the clowns. I'll keep searching for something that I like. Thanks for the info as always its appreciated!!!

Thanks:biggrin:

I have had a couple of firefish for about 7 months now, and no problems yet! My firefish hardly swim towards the top of the tank. They prefer to Dart into the rockwork.

Hi King, firefish jump if spooked. Apparently all of mine were spooked(likely suspect "BlueSided Wrasse"evil fish).;(
My bengai just hangs around, most of the time in the back or under the bridge. Eats everything, and has never bothered any of my shrimp. I have 3 cleaners & 2 blood shrimps, of course this is in the 155 bow.
As far as the clown fish in my 20g, I choose the ocellarios clowns because they are the smallest of the clowns growing to 3.5".

Remember the old specks for sw fish, 2g of sw per 1" of fish.

Awilda,

Hello. Thanks and that seems to be the word everybody here's using "SPOOKED" I guess I'm going to go with the screen if I plan on having the Fire Fish instead of relying on nothing spooking the fish.

Thanks:fish:
