The only time i have heard serious complaints about coraline algae,
is from those who have to scrap it off acrylic tanks.
but as far as harming/harassing corals for space,
i haven't heard any negative things on it.

I used a mag-float cleaner everyday to clean the front glass panel. Never had a problem with coraline algae growing on the front panel. I clean the front panel after feeding my fish. I do not touch the back or sides panel, I just like the coraline algae grow.

Obsessive reefer.....Cleaning glass Daily that's a job not a hobby...lol
