I just came across this mod & would like to know how the extra flow will effect a 40L tank with oolitic sand. I am currently using a MJ1200 & the flow from my return & I do have dead spots.

Is it just a stronger flow or a more mutidirectional flow. I imagine it isn't adjustable flow.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

i have one in a 30 breeder it moved all the sand from one end of the tank. I think it will be too much for a low tank.

In speaking with the president of Algae Free (the company that manufactures the SureFlow 1600), he said that the mod on any of the Maxijets will produce approx. 1600 gph, regardless of the model MJ you're using it on.

So, as Jon said, on a breeder type tank, it might be excessive flow because the pump would have to be positioned relatively low in the tank, causing sand to be 'redistributed'.

Thank Jon, I heard about issues when using it w/MJ 1200 so I'll steer clear.

ellebelle, I read your post about eliminating the other pumps you were using & was planning on asking you to sell me your unused mod, until I read Jon's post :)

I have one on a 1200MJ and it vibrates quite a bit.

I have a 900 and a 600 I can try it out on, if I can I'll do that tonight.

I will have to move the MJ1200 with the larger prop to the 120 then, and put the 6025 tunze back on the frag tank.

Paul, what do you think of the large propped MJ1200's on wavysea's ?
I was debating to get the vortech's and wireless controllers for flow, now I can't make up my mind. Two of each lol? not jk.

How would you connect the mod to a wavysea?

I just got my mod kit from House of Fish couple of days ago. Great seller btw.
It is an amazing mod. It moved SOOOO much water. It is really amazing. I did have rattling sound, I will have to email those guys.

I would highly recommend the mod kits, it is that good.

wavysea makes brackets for tunzes and MJ's, pretty cool, since I wanted the flow of the wavysea, but did not want to set up a closed loop to run them.
I have two tunzes, but the MJ's are a bit smaller so I might go with them if I get the wavyseas.

If you want to go with wavyseas (and they can handle the flow) you wouldn't even have to worry about pulsing them at all. With mjs running constantly I haven't heard of any issues. From what I can tell they are pretty reliable pumps. The mod doesn't change the motor just the wet end and you can get 6 modded mj1200's for the price of one 6101.

I should have my mod later this week so I can let you know how it turns out.
