Dr foster smith Refractometer? help

Hi

I brought 42 buck dr foster smith refrac and it doesn't come with fluid. I seem to keep getting 1.20 with any kind of salt water.

Does anyone know how to make this thing work also where I can get some fluid. It might help before I return this.

i believe you can use RODI water to calibrate the refractometer...
tell me if im wrong...

I think the instructions say to use distilled water-but I guess you could use rodi is you know it has 0 reading .

yeah i guess distilled and RODI both work. to calibrate, just rinse the meter before and after each use with it.

I just got one about 2 months ago. Inside the box there is a little screw use it to adjust the level to 0 with Rodi water All you need is about 5 drops on the screen. Hold it up to a bright light, adjust for vision and then adjust screw till 0. That's It refractometer calibrated!:thrash:

Does the Distill water need to be certain temp or any temp will do?

Starting to think I got a defective one.

Room temp would be fine, and yes use distilled water.
