Hey guys,

As some of you may know, I am setting up a new 100g square tank. Most of the corals that I have are still frag size and I want to transfer them to the new setup.

With that said, I need to setup a frag tank and I really don't know what are the bare min. for this. The only live stock will be the frags. So aside from the Tank, water, heater, and lighting what else is needed? Do I need to add LR or a skimmer?

For a frag tank yes. However if the tank is plumbed in with the sump and the display tank I would say the skimmer in the sump will be able to cover it.

Well heres the whole story and tell me what you think.

My current 125g has to go... and includes my ev240.
What I was planing to do is put my fish and most LR in a bin with my extra turbo floater skimmer and then all my frags in a frag tank.

Is there a better way of doing this?

Are the frags going to stay in the frag tank from then on or it's for couple of days? If for only a couple of days, the skimmer is not needed. If you plan on having the frags to stay there for good, why not set it up more permanently-treat it just like a display tank. Live rocks from the old system will help the water to stay stable.

Why don't you make a rack of some sort and put it in the tank. Then get your live rock and line the bottom of the tank with it use a HOB skimmer and maybe a media reactor incase your doing sps's and put your ph's one for top flow and one for bttom flow on either end of the tank. No I'm no expert like these other guys but I just think its some thing simple. What I did for a holding tank was get a tank I had laying around, put some old tank sand in it,put lr in hooked up a phos reactor and used a canister filter with lr ruble in it then, a maxi jet and let that sit for 3 days then put my stuff in. I show a pic later.
