my dad can get me metal halides from his job. if they are lets say 175w 14000k bulbs even if they arent made for aquariums can i still use them?

the one's he probably gets are for exterior light's, we have 1000w for our lamps at work.

you have to check the kevlar rating. i think that's it

i've heard different bulbs for different purposes have different efficencies, thats why the not many people use the cheap mh bulbs on ebay because it just doesn't give you the PAR you want or bulb life

and they are usually 3200 or 6000-6500k - not best for the reef (nowadays)
