how about single ended 175w 10k... for growth ... but you can get the iwasaki 15k for color .. reason why is because I was also thinking of upgrading.. depth is about 17-20 in..

if it's a 30g long, I'd do dual 150's HQI in mini pendants or the equivalent fixture with risers.

Gene, is the 30g a 36" tank? If it's 36" long (which is what I think it is) then I'd go with Jim's dual 150's or dual 175's.

I really dont want to do dual. The reason is that the main sps growth will be in the middle. I might as well get a hqi+T5 24" strip.

J,R, what is the max wattage that I could hang above 30g?

I see no reason whatsoever to go with more than a 250w bulb. 400w is extreme overkill and unnecessary (and possibly damaging).

For the sake of electricity and heat issues, I would get 2x175's to cover the tank evenly.
Only a single bulb, unless its a cube, will look awkward with the center brightest.
