PC to T5

I've got 2 39w Retro T5's coming to replace my 96w PC that I use for Actinic supplemation (is that a word?). I have a couple of questions.

Do the T5's run hotter?

Can I keep the T5's as close to the surface as I had my PC? I had the PC about 2" from the surface.

And finally, what is the best T5 Actinic bulb for color?

I think it depends on the brand of the bulb.

I have seen PC bulbs die when water splash over it while I have not yet seen the same with T5, so I guess the in general, T5 may be cooler. Once again I and guessing- never directly compare them.

Have both in my canopy and feel the T 5's run a little warmer
I like the Blue Plus bulbs as they are bluer than the others which look more of purple/blue.
None of mine are anywhere near that close to the water..sounds kinda dangerous..imo

Aren't you adding a MH to the tank too? What size? K?

I would say the T5s run a bit hotter and what type of blue are you looking for?

Geissman seem to be on the purple side, TRU Blu are a s uper rich blue, and the cheaper ones like Sunpaqs seem a bit pastel

I'm looking for a bulb that will make the colors of my corals really stand out. My PC actinics are nowhere near as close to bringing out color like some T5's I've seen.

It was nice meeting you and glad to hear your stuff is doing well.

At the swap we were using Geissman 11000K Aquablue Plus bulbs and Sunpaq Super Actinics.

I don't know if this helps at all because you do not have an all T5 setup, but perhaps it will give you a bit of reference.

If I was going to supplement my MHs I would use TRU Blu bulbs. Super rich blue

ATI blue pus is nice and has high par.....UVL super actinic is strong too...
