Thought i'd share this, but i initially set up a pristine tank with all base rock and new sand, nothing live, and all my readings where zero.

I got livestock from the frag swap including fish, and my tank turned into a swamp with lots of cyano.

I then read somewhere that if i raise my magnesium, this would solve my problems. I tested it with salifert, and it came back as 1300 using standard oceanic salt @ 1.025 gravity.

I added mag chloride, to somewhere about 1500 over two days and all my cyano is gone. Go figure.

I have crazy flow in my tank with two vortecs, two 1 inch sea swirls running on a sequence dart. I've read everywhere that flow is an issue, however that was not my case, and the mag really help.

Just passing this along to those who suffer from cyano.

PS: i got a bucket of mag cloride if anyone needs.

cyano

ohhh i need it. Then again i'm more bubble algae than cyano.Might be red cyano, not really sure.

bubble algae is green pearl sized hard balls that actually look like green pearls.

Cyano with bubbles is red/brown slime with bubbles coming out of it.

Ever since all my cyano die off, my BM200 pulled out the nastiest brown crude iver ever seen. all in two days

GQ,
how you able to get your BM to pull brown, my skimmer seems to just pull green stuff out. can you share how you dialed your skimmer in?

i think the brown had more to do with the massive die off of cyano. I had some difficulty dialing it at first. Some days was over skimming/overflowing.

I have the new gate valve model, so i restarted my apporach by closing the valve as far as it will go, and then make 5 turns on the nob every few hours or days till i got the desired froth. something not too watery.
