they are creepy and cool - but they eat bristleworms. These animals are part of your ecosystem. There was a time when we wanted to get rid of them - but they are scavengers, and good ones! Some folks want a bristleworm-free environment, though....

He's a wicked-cool animal, though.

I looked them up just yesterday on foster and smith
reef safe yes butmay eat mushrooms soft coral feather dusters and slow moving fish
Thats not my idea of reef safe

I don't think it is anymore risk than any other crab you put in a reef. Many people don't think about that with hermits or others. If they start getting hungry and the only thing around is FDs or soft corals, they may pick at them.

I don't have any experience with these guys though. Just my thoughts. I've only had them for a week. I'll keep an eye on them and let you all know how they are doing. I spot fed them really small pieces of squid yesterday. Maybe I won't spot feed them anymore and see what happens.

if you keep ur tank well fed, these guys wont go after ur corals, for the most part mine didnt really move around to much in my 125. He stayed in his lil corner and grabbed all the bristle worms. he was occasionally get a piece of silverside if it floated next to him and the triggers didnt grab it. But i agree with Domboski... its no more dangerous then a hermit or sally light foot....i've seen hermits destroy my nano b/c i didnt feed them enough

I totally agree I will never put another crab inmy tank. Each time I do a water change I try to catch what few I have left and put them in the sump.
