my girlfriend bought me a new tank for xmas. she has no idea what she just did. she bought me a 65 gallon reef ready. i built the stand. now i need some live rock.. also not sure of what type of sand i should put on the bottom. or go bare bottom. it has been 7 yeas since i started a new tank and i kind of forgot alot of what i need to know. if anyone as some good advice for me please let me know. this time around im not going to go all sps want to do a mixed reef. i still have all my equiptment expect for lighting.

Hello and welcome back to reefing. I would suggest going with a medium grade live sand bed. If you need live rock check out some threads alot of members are selling live rock. If not Fish Town USA sells it the cheapest. If you have any other questions feel free to drop me a line. I'm new in this hobby myself but I learned alot from the members of Manhattan Reef. hey mikey thought you were out of the hobby. i lost your number dude. you know i can always use an old friend advice.. maybe when it gets cycled i can get some of the frags we use to trade.. sice i have nothing at all. lol hell i dont even have rocks.. here is my number 917 541 5586 have a good new year..

i have two bags of live sand in my house i bought but they have a exp date. the date was october 2007. do yout think i can still use them. it has only been 2 mothts. over the exp date.

Welcome back!! Nobody can stay away for long huh????lol. Plenty of frags floating around and more vendors than before.You should up and running in no time.
