Was wondering, I just cleaned out the skimmer, the most extensive I have, since having it for several(7) months now. I had to keep it on the lowest level, due to collecting too much liquid too fast. It did finally slow up, a while back, but never adjusted it. After some extensive cleaning, and raising the the piece that the water overflows from into the tub, the flow of water coming out has greatly increased. Before it overflowed slowly, now strong fountain of water. Should the sponge filter be flushed with the top of that plastic pipe, or sit below a bit. Should there be a strong flow of water, almost like a fountain, coming out of the pipe flowing onto the tube, or a slow overflow. Thinking maybe all has broken in finally to its optimal quality of water, and that is why. Water parameters are fine, and pretty much always were, just wanted to check out how others feedback that have one, and position of the sponge filter on that pipe, flush at top, or the pipe exposed at top, with sponge below it.

Also, I just started using purpleup solution, don't know if that is playing a role in the much more powerful overflow of water.

I have only used G series skimmers.it sounds like you have something blocking the intake,or the little breather hose port on the cone that goes on the front of the pump. Also check the gasket that goes into the body.

Please explain the gate valve mod, and how it would be done. Will the height/position of the the tube, where the water comes out, affect how fast and the flow?

The higher you pull up the tube, the wetter the skimming.

Here is how i have mine set,& the skim is on the wet side.

I have the asm G series skimmer too. I too have strong fountain like water flow out of it. I find it splashes a bit too much (salt creep all over my cabinet and sump walls) so I keep the sponge as high to the top as it will stay. I think you are getting this strong water flow because when you cleaned everything out you made your water pump that much more efficient. I too am considering the gate valve mod as this allows you to have control over exactly how much output water flows out.

Im tellin you guys. Its not supposed to splash out,i cant even hear my skimmer running.

The vent hole is clogged, where the rubber vent hose attaches.Use a toothpick ti clean the salt,& sand out of there,& that baby will purr.Look at the pic i attached ist flowing nice out of the spout.

Expedition, you are correct, , just mover the hose a round a bit, near base, and with my finger, put it in the the hold where water is suck in from the pump, then held the hose closed, and opened, seemed to blow all out, and now it is still overflowing nicely, but now like a founting, consistantly over the top of the plastic tube onto the sponge, much quieter. Thanks. By the way, does the hose come off, I would imagine, for better cleaning, just slips off and on?

Then CAREFYLY remove the hose from the grey cone,Inspect,& clean the inside of the cone.(Any debris will affect the whirlpool effect to the body,& the flow rate out of the drain)Then clean the "breather hole" out with a toothpick.I soak mine in vinegar while i clean it.Thats it.I never modded any of the G-Skimmers i had.

run the skimmer in vinegar for a day and let the whole system clean out, do the gate valve mod, it lets you dial it in much better. skip the mesh wheel mod, wasnt impressed with it or a noticable difference, the part expi is showing clean it out. i did find shortning the air tube line so that it just fit through the holder helped. less tube for it to have to suck air through. so it pulls air in easier
