Well I guess this has been gnawing at me for a while and it has been showing in some of my posts.

MR has a great list of vendors and sponsors. I know all of these group buys and internet ordering is cool but the thing is that it seems that nobody is giving our MR vendors or Sponsors a shot at the group buy. These people/Companies Contribute to MR and I feel we should support them before we support a company that doesn't.

So please, if you are planning a group buy or if you are planning to order something PLEASE look at the vendor forum and the sponsor list and see if you can throw some support to those who support your site.

Thank you to those who do practice this, and thank you to the vendors and sponsors for giving us the deals of death and the support you do.

good post chief.

maybe we should make the sponsor list more noticeable. it gets kind of lost in the pull down menu.

Why not add a sponsor button on the nav bar? Jumps you to the sponsors of the site, from their banner link to either their site or forum. The pull down is nice but your right it gets lost easily.

Chief you know what gnaws at me?

Certain members raving and posting pics of livestock of a non-sponsor LFS in the area.

I have donated and will support MR because this is a great site. I would love to support all vendors and sponsors here and started to do so, however I have sent a few questions about items I wanted and they don't even get back to you. What should I do wait around for an answer? So I do what I have to do and buy at other places.

In addition to that I have dealt with vendors that are not fair or don't even care. There are a few I have dealt with which I will continue to support and are really great.

Just my 2 cents...

No thread is complete without pics!!

I bought Penny (the clam with spots around her edges) at the spring swap from HOF. I didn't post her in the frag swap thread because my lights are lame, and I wanted her to have a chance to develop her colors :) She and Fitty Cent, the clam with electric blue lines are both ORA clams. It's nice to know that Russ and Jim can provide aqua cultured specimens.

The orange digitata was an HOF freebie at a random MR get together. Again, it's nice to know that it was aquacultured, this time in the HOF propogation system. (See MR magazine for more info.) The green turbinaria next to it is also HOF at a huge discount.

The frog spawn came from last year's frag swap. Again, a donation to MR by HOF that I won in a grab bag.

Pretty cool huh? :flower:

Ray,
I am not saying not to support non vendor/member/sponsors I'm just saying give them the first shot. And you do give them a shot which is, I think, admirable.

I agree with getting a sponsor page up so there's quick access to the banners. i.e. ThatfishPlace (no vendor forum), the only place I see where we can click thru is via the banner ad, but that rotates. So either we have to keep refreshing until we see the banner or we end up just typing it into the browser and MR misses the clickthru.

I do give vendors and sponsors first shot and will continue to do so, however if they do not get back to you, what do I do?

Here is a example: My post #9
http://www.manhattanreefs.com/forum...g-requests-suggestions-next-week-s-order.html

And on the other hand, I have dealt with vendors that have gone out of there way for me such as HOF and Aquatic Express and I will continue to support and buy from them...

So who is more important to support, my guess I would say the vendors of MR.

I would like to add another vendor that I have dealt with who has accommodated me. NYAquatic(Michael Stern). How many sponsors here on MR right now will meet you at 7am on a Sunday morning or 10:30pm at night in their house? Not many...

I try to buy from vendors of mr whenever possible, just things that they can not price compete with are items I get from other places, but if the prices are close I always go with MR vendors...:)
