i just got my remora pro with mag 3 pump in the mail. at first, i was confused because the mag 3 pump came in a box labeled "pondmaster" and it is HUGE! i wasn't expecting it to be that big. so my question is, how do i get it to fit on the skimmer? i started putting the intake into the flexible tube, but the pump itself is big and doesn't fit right on the skimmer. isn't it supposed to lay flat on the skimmer? does anyone have pictures of the mag 3 on a remora skimmer?

The pump hangs down into the tank (or sump) off the piece of tubing. The skimmer hangs on the outside of the tank (assuming you got a hang on skimmer). You may need a longer piece of tubing than you have.

Take a look at the last page of this thread..the pump for his remora (he's using a maxi-jet) is the one hanging into the tank about 3/4 of the way across the tank.

Have the same exact combo, great skimmer, the skimmer, where the elbow type pvc pipe comes out, sits on the the back wall of your tank, the pump attaches to that end, and sits up high on back of tank wall, against it. Just plug the pump in, and you are good to go, of course, just sit the cup on top, using the o-ring around it move the cup up on down, down, pulls dryer stuff, the higher the cup, the more water, or liquid stuff comes in, takes a week or too to break in, just watch the cup does not fill when you are out.

kathy, do you think i should get a maxi-jet instead of the mag 3 that i have? seems the maxi-jet might be adequate (i have a 45 gallon tank with two fish) but i just haven't heard much about the pump's efficiency. the mag 3 might be too big for my tank...

Looks like you bought it as a combo (pump & skimmer together)..so they should work fine..you'll just have better filtration :)
I do see that they can be purchased with a smaller sized pump also..but it's the flow rate that counts.

Is your only issue the physical size of the Mag3?
Do you see how it attaches? :)

...

I used to have a aqua pro w/ a mag3....Trust me it wasnt enough... Dont get me wrong, its a great skimmer but I had an idea to upgrade to a mag 5 since it has exactly the same fitting as the mag3...

vangoghfish, thanks for your explanation of how it all fits behind my tank. kathy, you're right about the better filtration part. i was concerned about the size of the pump which would look huge in my little tank, but i'm going to suck it up. if i ever upgrade to a larger tank, i won't have to but a new skimmer! it looks like i'm going to definitely need a longer hose to fit the pump, though. thanks!

I got the remora pro with the mag 3 pump for xmas. One thing I noticed was that when attatching the pump to the skimmer, it came off easily. make sure that you TIGHTLY clamp the fasteners around both ends of the hose that bridges the skimmer to the pump.

Oh and if you think it looks big in yout tank now, i doubt you would wanna see what the big black box cover/media holder that Aqua C made for the remora pro looks like. Its frikkin massive!
