Noobish Question

Actually just wanted to know something from the rest of you guys.
Should you have the water pumped all the way to the top of the neck of the collection cup or how far down should you go?
Not sure if you guys catch the drift of my question.
Right now i have the water level inside the skimmer about 2 inches from the top of the collection cup and most of the gunk collects aroung the neck and lid of the skimmer. Where do you guys have the inner water level go up to (about)? I know not all skimmers are the same dimensions etc.. etc. just want some ideas.

you can set it either way,the lower you set it,the less often you will have to change it.anywhere between 1/4 up or 1/4 down will be ok.the most important part is that you see foam on top of the collection cup.if its a new skimmer it takes like a day of two for it to really start foaming.

if u can give info on your skimmer,then our info would b of value.
basically its trial n error with "dialing" the right level to achieve the right foam. i start with 3" n slowly move my way up or down till the skimmer is "broken in"

Nah this skimmer is already broken in and it has foam whenever theres something in the water, just wondering if there was an optimal area and if the collection of really thick gunk on the water side of the neck and collection lid was normal.

Hey what type of livestock do you have how many fishes & do you have a cleaning crew the more livestock you have the more **** you get in your skimmer
as reefman said you start low down and just work your way up slowly,
it all depends on what type of skimmer you have
