Reasonable, I believe, is up to you... if you have a fish that is in a bucket, reasonable would be 1-2 days. If you have a big fuge, like myself, you need to get out of your place, reasonable is asap... same with if you need the cash!

If you explain your situation, I am sure they will understand if you decide to give it to the next person in line.

Well, I did PM both asking if the deal was still on and no response from either. And they have both logged on since the time I sent the PM's...oh well!

When it comes to dibs, it is basically is at the seller's discretion.

So if you are the seller, it is entirely up to you!

Is that vague enough?

Well, as the seller, if the buyer keeps in contact with you stating that they are still interested how long do you wait without you seeming like the bad guy?

Well, at least your answer was less vague than the 2 people have been with me!

LOL.

I would say a week is pretty fair.

Unless you have to really really get rid of something, then of course the rules change. Like if you have something sitting in a bucket in the middle of your kitchen

I would give them 24 hours to make payment(or deposit if the item requires inspection), move on to the next person. Their lost!!.

I once made a trade with some schmuck on this board, asked a buddy of mine to take a RBTA (thats what the other party wanted in trade) out of his tank, took it to the frag swap in Brooklyn and waited 3 hours for the guy which never showed. I lost faith in MR members ability to come thru on their commitment and will not no longer hold things for people I don't know personally. Too many dibbers on this site that don't live up to what they post.:bablefish

Sorry to hear that, but I guess when you are a considerate person you expect the same from other people!

hm, I figure if you bother to actually say you definitely want something /call dibs you should be paying attn to your PMs and respond within 24-36 hrs of the seller contacting you.
After that it depends on your correspondence i.e. if you give them a deadline.

I've told folks that have had me waiting 2 days straight after dibing something, that they have 12hrs (until I got home that 3rd day) to respond to my 3rd PM, and if they didn't I would move on.

I've never been that kind of buyer. The only thing I've had an issue with I guess, is asking a general question and that being percieved as me actually wanting to purchase it. I don't think asking about size, cost, etc means I'm putting dibs or seriously interested. But I'm sure that's not your experience at the moment.

I don't believe in dibs or "interested"
If someone wants an item they may pay for it, then it's theirs.
Otherwise don't bother holding anything, you will just get burned in the end, eventually.

if they arent ready to pick up the item asap then you really shouldnt have to wait ,unless you worked out those arrangements with the buyer of course and vice versa first come first serve ... i havent been here long and allready had good experience went to grab some frags off autoponics and found aquatic express around my neighborhood..

I'm with the majority on this one. I don't hold for most people unless i know them and they've come thru in the past. Most of the time if a new member wants something or at least its someone i havent dealt with before i check out their reefer rating and go from there.

I've held things for as long as 3 weeks, if not really close to that with no problem, gotta understand people have lives to live away from the tank. No problems as long as the person comes thru and this is usually with people i know personally so i have no problems.

Sometimes you need things out ASAP and i'll go dirt cheap and first one to commit to earliest pick up wins.
